Chinese brand Omoda Jaku has added another plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) to its local lineup.

The J8 SHS Summit shares its tri-motor all-wheel drive PHEV powertrain with the similarly priced Chery Tiggo 9 Ultimate Super Hybrid as well as the more expensive Omoda 9 ($61,990 plus on-roads).

Specification differences between the J8 SHS and the Chery Tiggo 9 Ultimate, which also seats seven, are minor. The J8 gets an eight-way (instead of six-way) power driver’s seat, as well as adaptive dampers and a built-in aroma system, although the Tiggo 9’s semi-autonomous parking assist feature is not included on its spec sheet.
The rest of the J8 lineup uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine without any electrification, as well as a five-seat layout, giving further points of differentiation from its cherry-badged corporate cousin.
The Jaecoo J8 was launched in Australia last year as the second model of the flagship Jaecoo.

Jaecoo J8 comes with eight years, unlimited kilometers vehicle warranty, SHS also comes with eight years, unlimited kilometers battery warranty.
There is 12 months of roadside assistance, extendable to eight years if you continue to service the vehicle within the Omoda Jaaku network.
