HDFC Bank ATM UPI Cash Withdrawal Rule Changes Starting April 1, 2026: Free Transaction Limits, Fees Explained

HDFC Bank has announced that Unified Payments Interface (UPI) based cash withdrawals at its ATMs will now be counted towards the free monthly ATM transaction limit. This will be effective from April 1, 2026. Please note that once HDFC Bank’s free transaction limit is exceeded, charges will apply.

Starting April 1, UPI cash withdrawals at HDFC Bank ATMs will be treated the same as cash withdrawals at regular ATMs. After exceeding the free limit, a fee of Rs 23 plus applicable taxes will be charged per transaction.

Free ATM Transaction Limits for HDFC Bank Savings and Salary Accounts

Currently, HDFC Bank offers the following free monthly ATM transaction limits for savings and salary account holders:
Customers can make 5 free transactions at HDFC Bank ATMs. Other bank ATMs (metro cities) offer three free transactions, while other bank ATMs (non-metro cities) offer five free transactions. When these limits are exceeded, appropriate charges are imposed. HDFC Bank also levies specific charges for using ATMs abroad:
For the unmanaged section, there is a charge of Rs. 25 + applicable taxes for each balance inquiry and Rs 125 + applicable taxes for cash withdrawal, plus a cross-currency markup of 3.5%.
For the managed segment, Rs. 110 + applicable taxes on cash withdrawal + 3.5%# cross-currency profit margin and Rs. 15 + applicable taxes on each balance inquiry.
