March 4 marks National Safety Day. Real progress is not measured only by growth and achievements, but by the confidence with which they are achieved. Sustainable development can only flourish when security is treated as a core value. The 2026 safety theme, “Engage, educate and empower people to improve safety,” reinforces this vision.
It highlights the importance of active participation, continuous learning and giving people the confidence to act responsibly. Engaging employees in identifying risks, educating them on safety practices, and training them to take timely action are essential steps to reducing accidents and preventing avoidable losses. Safety is not just limited to workplaces; It extends to roads, homes, schools and public spaces. When awareness and responsibility become part of everyday life, communities become stronger and healthier.

AI-generated verdict is ‘judicial misconduct’
The Supreme Court objected to a trial court using an AI-generated verdict based on allegedly non-existent and false subpoenas. Acting on a special leave petition, the high court observed that the trial court’s reliance on false and non-existent verdicts amounts to judicial misconduct. Although the use of AI to reach a ruling can facilitate the judicial process and resolve cases quickly and efficiently, caution must be taken regarding its authenticity.

Sanju comes of age
Referring to ‘Sam-song ‘India into semis’ (THI, March 2), in one fell swoop, India has ‘discovered’ a new match-winner in Sanju Samson, who, if not for the Eden Gardens knock, would perhaps have faded into oblivion after the World Cup. There was not an iota of doubt about his talent, but inconsistency was his problem.
The initial flashes of brilliance never reached greater heights, and if Samson found himself on and off the team, he had no one to blame but himself. On Sunday, a calm and collective Samson perhaps played the innings of his life. At his best, the 31-year-old makes batting look so easy.

Don’t destroy schools with AI
This is in reference to their editorial, “Age-appropriateness is essential when introducing AI in schools” (March 3). The growing enthusiasm for integrating AI into classrooms must be tempered with pedagogical prudence. Fundamental schooling is intended to cultivate discipline, understanding, and independent thinking. Premature reliance on AI tools could dilute these essential elements.
Introducing elementary concepts about AI is acceptable, but deeper engagement such as coding, data analysis, and ethical frameworks would ideally begin in high school. At that stage, students can understand security barriers, privacy concerns, and responsible innovation. AI should serve as an enabling instrument, not a substitute for the acquisition of fundamental knowledge.

The increase in the cheetah population is great news
It is heartwarming to note that the total number of cheetahs in the country has increased to 48, including 28 cubs born in Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, the Union Environment Ministry should look for other suitable landscapes in the country, particularly grasslands and dry deciduous forests, which are considered more suitable for this species.
State forest departments must ensure that considerable numbers of impalas, gazelles and gazelles are available in these sanctuaries so that cheetahs can hunt and survive and at the same time increase their population. It is a pleasure to watch a mother cheetah stalk her prey in the open grasslands and African savanna. The tourism industry will grow tremendously as these parks are able to attract wildlife and nature lovers and wildlife photographers and gradually establish themselves as a “must visit destination”.

Rahul must maintain restraint
Rahul Gandhi should be more diplomatic in his statements on very sensitive issues. It seems he wants war riots in India. Whether governing or in opposition, political leaders must maintain restraint and stop expressing adverse opinions.
Unfortunately, the Congress Party is apparently in cahoots with anti-India and even anti-Hindu forces to bring about regime change. Rahul Gandhi should brush up on his knowledge and try to counter Modi’s failures, instead of trying useless tricks to fool people.
