Originally scheduled for March 9, the review was canceled due to the illness of a committee member, leaving the film’s certification and release date uncertain. The much-awaited Vijay starrer ‘Jana Nayagan’ continues to dominate the headlines due to its unfinished censorship issues. Many doubts surround the film after objections were raised over some scenes. The film was reportedly expected to be screened before the Review Committee of the Central Board of Film Certification on March 9. Fans and industry observers hoped the revision would finally clarify the film’s certification status and help move the project closer to a theatrical release.

‘Jana Nayagan’ review delayed

However, the long-awaited review did not take place as planned. According to India Today, the screening scheduled for Monday afternoon was canceled at the last minute after a member of the Review Committee fell ill. As a result, the censorship review has been postponed with no new date announced. The sudden postponement of the process made Vijay’s fans very sad as they clearly thought that the film would release soon.

Legal fight behind the certification issue

Censorship issues began to arise when the Central Board of Film Certification screened ‘Jana Nayagan’ in December 2025. The board apparently suggested some changes, but a former member of the original committee lodged an official complaint. The objection reportedly concerned the way some religious practices were displayed and the alleged use of army symbols without authorization. Consequently, the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ordered that the film be seen by a review committee; Therefore, the certification was again suspended. The production team then approached the Madras High Court to challenge the decision.

Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ has a special significance as Vijay has announced it as his last film before fully focusing on politics through his party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam. The film has a huge star cast, including Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde and Narain. The film was scheduled to be released on January 9, but due to pending certification, it has not been released and does not yet have a release time frame.
