Amid West Asia fears, induction cooktop sales surge online

Mumbai: Sales of induction cooktops have surged on e-commerce platforms as consumers rush to have backup options ready amid fears of disruption in LPG supply.For Walmart-controlled Flipkart, sales volumes have tripled in the last four-five days compared to the last three-four weeks, while Amazon has seen demand jump up to 20 times in the last 24 hours, company spokespersons told TOI.“The current global situation has transformed induction cooktops from a kitchen upgrade to a survival necessity for many households. We are witnessing an unprecedented growth in induction sales driven by the combination of rising costs and shortage of physical supply of LPG,” Flipkart said. Delhi, Kolkata and some areas of UP have seen high growth.Instant commerce platforms like Swiggy Instamart, Blinkit and Zepto have seen a rise in sales.“We have seen a 10-fold increase in the last week,” an official said. Tata group’s BigBasket said it has seen almost five-fold increase in sales of induction cooktops since Monday. “We are already revising our monthly forecast up to three times,” said Sheshu Kumar Tirumala, chief purchasing and sales officer. While shares of Borosil Ltd rose 11%, Hawkins Cookers closed 4.2% higher and TTK Prestige closed nearly 7% higher.
