Bayern Munich’s 6-1 victory over Atalanta came at a cost, with the club confirming that Alphonso Davies, Jonas Urbig and Jamal Musiala all suffered injuries in Tuesday’s match.

Vincent Kompany’s team achieved victory at the New Balance Arena in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, with Michael Olise starring for the Bundesliga leader.

But Urbig, Davies and Musiala will now be out of the team, with no indication of how long they will be out of the squad specified by the club in their statement.

Musiala and Urbig were injured in second-half stoppage time, with the latter colliding with Nikola Krstovic before Mario Pasalic scored Atalanta’s consolation goal in the 93rd minute.

In the 71st minute, Davies, who had just come on at half-time, was sent off with what Bayern’s medical team confirmed was a muscle strain in his right thigh.

The Canadian international had set up Olise for his second of the game just seven minutes before being taken off, and left the field in tears after missing the start of the 2025-26 season while recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Musiala missed the first half of the season after breaking his ankle in the Club World Cup.

Bayern’s impressive victory practically assured them a place in the quarterfinals.

He scored at least six goals in an away European round of 16 match for the second time, beating Legia Warsaw 7-3 in the first round of the UEFA Cup in October 1988.

Kompany’s side will be next in action on Saturday in the Bundesliga and will be hoping to extend their 11-point lead at the top of the table by beating Bayer Leverkusen.
