Mooney’s 99-run partnership with fellow veteran Ellyse Perry (36) helped Australia amass a decent total of 164/6 at the Arnos Vale Ground, with the hosts struggling to gain much momentum during their run chase as they were restricted to just 121/6 in reply.
It was the first of six matches Australia will play in the Caribbean over the next fortnight and Mooney believes this will help the team finalize its preparations for the T20 World Cup which begins in England on June 12.
“I think playing T20 at this time of year before the T20 World Cup and against a big rival in the West Indies is great, plus they are in foreign conditions, which we are going to face overseas in June and July,” Mooney said in the post-match presentation.
“So for us it was very important and nice to get off on the right foot.”
