Three front-line naval platforms: INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhakand INS gray – were handed over to the Navy on Monday (March 30, 2026) by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), marking a significant boost to India’s indigenous defense manufacturing capabilities under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
This is the first time GRSE has delivered three major naval platforms simultaneously, underscoring its enhanced production capacity, enhanced project management and operational efficiency. With this achievement, the shipyard has built 118 warships, including 80 for the Indian Navy, reinforcing its role as a key pillar of India’s maritime defense ecosystem.
INS Dunagirithe second Project 17A advanced guided missile frigate built by GRSE, represents a leap in indigenous warship design. The 149-meter-long, 6,670-tonne stealth frigate is equipped with advanced weapons and sensors, including BrahMos cruise missiles, AESA radar and an integrated combat management system. Powered by a combined gas and diesel turbine configuration, it is capable of multi-dimensional operations in the aerial, surface and underground domains.
INS Sanshodhakthe fourth and final (large) reconnaissance ship of its class, strengthens the hydrographic capabilities of the Navy. The 110-meter vessel is designed for coastal and deep-sea surveys, oceanographic data collection and can also support helicopter operations, HADR missions and limited combat roles.
INS graya shallow anti-submarine warfare vessel, it is designed for coastal defense operations. With approximately 88% indigenous content, it is equipped with light torpedoes, ASW rockets and a 30mm naval gun. Its shallow draft and water jet propulsion system improve maneuverability in coastal waters.
The simultaneous induction of these platforms highlights GRSE’s robust infrastructure and its ability to handle multiple complex builds at the same time. The shipyard is currently working on several key projects, including additional stealth frigates, ASW vessels and offshore patrol vessels, along with export platforms, further consolidating its position in India’s defense manufacturing landscape.
