The IPL 2026 season has seen unprecedented levels of six-hitters just as the tournament has passed the halfway mark. The previous season in 2025 was the best edition in terms of six hits with 1,294 six hits in 73 games.
Individual hitting has entered a whole new level this year, with Indian batsmen topping the charts with a series of highs. Among them, teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become the six-hit phenomenon so far, smoking a staggering 37 six-hitters in just nine innings, which already puts him close to the Indian record in one edition. Sooryavanshi also tops the list of run-getters with 400 runs and also broke Murali Vijay’s Indian record for most sixes in an innings, having smashed 12 of them during his 36-ball hundred against SunRisers Hyderabad.
Among Indian batsmen, Abhishek Sharma holds the record for most six hits in a series, with a maximum of 42 in the 2024 edition.

Over the years, several big-hitting superstars have put together massive six-hit streaks that have lit up the tournament. Chris Gayle, the highest six-hitter in IPL history, remains at the top of the charts even as new power batsmen have emerged on the scene.
Gayle remains the only batsman to hit 50 sixes in a season twice, achieving the feat with RCB in successive years in 2012 and 2013. West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is the only other batsman to hit 50 sixes in a year, achieving it with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2019.
