Benchmark equity indices closed marginally lower on Thursday after a highly volatile session as persistent foreign fund outflows and geopolitical uncertainties kept investors cautious, PTI reported.The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 77,844.52, down 114 points or 0.15 per cent. During the day, the benchmark swung as much as 671.49 points between a high of 78,384.70 and a low of 77,713.21. NSE Nifty 50 slipped 4.30 points or 0.02 per cent to 24,326.65.

“Indian equity markets traded broadly flat as investors awaited Iran’s response to the US peace proposal. Nifty consolidated and closed almost unchanged as markets paused for confirmation before picking up momentum,” said Ponmudi R, CEO, Enrich Money.Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, selling equities worth Rs 5,834.90 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 2.23 per cent lower at around $99 a barrel.“Indian stock market closed today on a slightly cautious note. Continued FII withdrawals and weak global cues weighed on the market. Ongoing geopolitical uncertainties have also kept investor confidence under check, impacting overall risk appetite,” said Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst, Lemon Markets Desk.South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei 225, Shanghai’s SSE Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng closed in positive territory, with Asian markets mostly closing higher.European markets were trading lower, while US markets closed higher overnight.
