Liverpool will have to act quickly if they want to secure Marcos Senesi as a free agent following his departure from Bournemouth.

The Cherries announced on Friday that the centre-back will leave when his contract expires this summer, and there is sure to be considerable interest in the Argentina international. Senesi has been among the most outstanding players in Andoni Iraola’s team this season, participating in 37 games in all competitions.

He has helped Bournemouth rise to sixth place in the Premier League, with a realistic chance of qualifying for European football next season in the remaining two games. Sixth place will be enough to qualify for the Champions League if Aston Villa beat Freiburg in the Europa League final on Wednesday.

However, the 29-year-old has rejected several contract extension offers from Bournemouth and will leave the club this summer, along with Iraola.

Liverpool are among the teams linked with Senesi, although Tottenham have reportedly gained an advantage over their rivals.

According to talkSPORT, Senesi has agreed personal terms with Spurs and is ready to move to London, provided the club avoids relegation.

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last four games and are two points clear of West Ham in the final relegation place heading into the penultimate round of matches at the weekend.

Liverpool are looking for a centre-back this summer, amid doubts over Joe Gomez’s future and with Ibrahima Konate yet to sign a new contract.

Captain Virgil van Dijk is now 34 years old and, with Giovanni Leoni suffering a season-ending knee injury shortly after his arrival last summer, new signings remain necessary, despite the imminent capture of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.

Senesi has proven to be the cornerstone of Bournemouth’s rise up the table in 2026, forming a partnership with James Hill that has produced 11 clean sheets throughout their current 16-match unbeaten run.

Since joining Feyenoord in 2022, he has made 124 appearances for the Cherries in total.

“From the first day I arrived I felt at home in this club,” Senesi said in a statement to the club’s website. “I am proud of everything we have achieved in the last four years and I am grateful for the support that the fans have always given me.

“AFC Bournemouth will always have a special place for me and I will look back on my time here with fond memories.

“For now, there are still two important games left in the season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”
