Air India has announced a major expansion of its Maharaja Club loyalty programme, which will allow members to earn and redeem Maharaja points on flights operated by Air India Express on a network spanning over 55 destinations in South, Southeast and West Asia.

The integration marks a significant step in Air India Group’s efforts to strengthen Maharaja Club’s value proposition and create a more unified loyalty ecosystem across both airlines.

Maharaja Club members can immediately start earning Maharaja Points and Tier Points on Air India Express-operated flights booked through Air India and Air India Express websites and mobile apps, as well as through leading travel agencies.

Eligible Air India Express flights will also contribute to tier progression, including minimum flight requirements and tier point accumulation, allowing members to progress faster through the program’s membership tiers.

Commenting on the development, Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India and President, Air India Express, said, “Our focus is to continually expand Maharaja Club in a manner that ensures that the travel experiences of our loyal customers across destinations contribute significantly to their relationship with the Air India group. The growing scale of the Air India Express network makes the introduction of accruals and redemptions on these flights timely and important, addressing a long-standing expectation of our frequent flyers.”

In the current phase, members can earn Maharaja Points on all Air India Express flights by entering their Maharaja Club ID during the booking process. Retrospective claims for points on Air India Express flights are not available at this stage.

The benefits earning framework covers a wide range of rate categories, including student, senior and military rates. Maharaja points will be calculated on base fare and fuel surcharge, with accrual rates aligned with Air India’s existing structure.

The airline has also allowed redemption of Maharaja points for select codeshare flights operated by Air India Express carrying Air India’s ‘AI’ designator code. Currently, redemptions start at 1,500 Maharaja Points in select domestic sectors.

Examples of redemption routes include Bengaluru–Chennai, Mumbai–Goa, Delhi–Bengaluru and international sectors such as Amritsar–Dubai, Mumbai–Abu Dhabi and Bengaluru–Bangkok.

Air India stated that future phases of integration will introduce additional loyalty benefits for Maharaja Club members traveling on Air India Express, including priority check-in, priority boarding, seat selection and greater booking flexibility through cancellation and rescheduling fee waivers on eligible services.

The development reflects Air India Group’s broader strategy to strengthen customer loyalty and improve connectivity across its expanding domestic and international network.
