The structural logic is the more important detail. Hull and Hull Warfare, MECO, Marine and Energy Liabilities, and Transportation and Logistics previously operated as separate sections within Markel International. That siled structure worked well enough when the risks were actually distinct. In a market where the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in June 2026 has stranded approximately $125 billion worth of ships and cargo in the Persian Gulf – while also creating the risk of hull warping, MECO claims on ships unable to transit, energy liability questions around stranded cargo, and transportation and logistics disruption downstream – managing those risks in four distinct categories highlights underwriting response and customer service. There is a difference between the two. A single director in all four sections closes those gaps structurally rather than relying on coordination between separate functions under pressure.
