Major reforms are planned to boost house sales in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The government hopes that the schemes will eliminate rigging and manipulation and make buying and selling homes faster, cheaper and less expensive. Gasjumping is when a seller changes the buyer at the last minute, usually because someone can pay more. Gasjumping is where the buyer suddenly abandons their agreed offer just before contracts are exchanged. One in three home sales fall through before exchange. According to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, this costs sellers £400m every year and the wider economy £1.5bn. Plans to improve the system include the introduction of vendor packs similar to the system operating in Scotland.
