Adani Ports and Haifa Port, owned by SEZ Ltd in Israel, confirmed on Sunday that port assets and infrastructure are fully secure and in operational condition, amid the growing conflict in the Middle East. The United States and Israel attacked Iran, called for regime change, and killed Ali Khamenei.

“Haifa Port Company confirms that all its employees are safe and that all port assets and infrastructure are fully secure and in operational condition,” APSEZ said in a statement.

The port authority continuously monitors the situation and is in close coordination with the Ministry of Transport and Road Safety and operates according to its instructions.

“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of our people and the continuity of operations, maintaining the stability of Israel’s supply chain and international trade,” he said.

Several shipping and airports were attacked during the attacks on several nations. Dubai International Airport, its iconic Burj Al Arab hotel and the artificial island Palm Jumeirah were damaged during the attacks.

Thick plumes of black smoke were seen rising from the Jebel Ali port area, where one of the berths caught fire on Sunday due to debris from an intercepted missile.

The commercial port of Duqm in Oman was attacked by two drones, injuring one worker, Reuters reported.

APSEZ operates 19 ports and terminals, including 15 in India and 4 international ports in Australia, Colombo, Israel and Tanzania. The company acquired Haifa Port Company for $1.13 billion in 2022.

In the first quarter of FY25, Haifa Port recorded 25% year-on-year growth in container volume and 38% year-on-year growth in other cargo volumes, leading to overall volume growth of 29% year-on-year. This quarter witnessed the highest quarterly revenue and operating EBITDA for Haifa Port since its acquisition by APSEZ.

Haifa Port is located in the northern part of Israel and is the largest port in the country, handling 56% of the country’s cargo volume in 2021. It receives all types of cargo: containers, bulk, general, liquid, and vehicles.

The key port, with its 10 terminals, serves a vast hinterland, in particular Israel’s two main cities, i.e. Haifa (300 m away) and Tel Aviv (90 km away) and has good rail and road connectivity.

Haifa Port Company operates and maintains 5 terminals (2 container, 2 multi-cargo and 1 passenger) in Haifa Port with 2 km of coastline and a maximum draft of 16.5 m.
