Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) has crossed the historic milestone of 500 million tonnes of cargo handling, the company announced on Wednesday.

With this, APSEZ – which is India’s largest integrated transport utility and one of the country’s leading port developers and operators – also highlighted its target to reach 1 billion tonnes of cargo handling by 2030.
Speaking on the milestone, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said ports “are not just gateways for trade, they are gateways to national confidence, competitiveness and destiny.” In a statement, the company said it was a “defining moment” that demonstrated India’s “infrastructure-led transformation”.
Adani thanked the company’s customers, partners and “each and every member of the APSEZ family whose dedication and trust has made this milestone possible.” He further appreciated the “Central and State Governments”, saying that their policies and “commitment to infrastructure” have helped build the foundation of APSEZ.
“APSEZ crossing 500 million tonnes is indicative of our decades-long belief in India’s growth story. Over the years, we have not only built ports, but built a unique interconnected transportation and logistics platform spanning ports, rail, roads, trucking, warehouses and cargo gateways. The best of APSEZ is ahead of us,” Adani said.
APSEZ began operating in 1998 with a “single-port vision”, the company said in its statement, adding that its network now includes 19 ports and terminals in India and other countries. The company said it took 16 years to reach its first 100 million tonnes of cargo handling. It said, “…each next 100 million tonnes has been added faster than the last, reflecting the increasing scale, efficiency, flexibility and strategic depth of its platform.”
The operator has 15 ports across 11,000 km of Indian coastline, and four international ports on the strategic East-West global corridor. It consists of 12 multimodal logistics parks.
