Amazon.com Inc. U.S. employees, who were anticipating thousands of layoffs, got another thing to worry about late Tuesday night — a meeting invitation and email from a top executive that was sent ahead of time.

An email from Amazon senior vice president Colleen Aubrey reviewed by Bloomberg shows a meeting scheduled for Wednesday morning has been canceled titled “Project Dawn.” The email said “affected associates” located in the US, Canada and Costa Rica had been notified, and noted a separate message from Amazon HR chief Beth Galetti that did not appear to have been sent.
“Changes like this are hard for everyone,” Aubrey’s email said. “Decisions are difficult and taken thoughtfully as we position our organization and AWS for future success.”
Amazon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The email quickly spread to internal message boards and social media sites like Reddit, where Amazon employees are sharing any hints they can get about the scope of the layoffs.
Amazon began a massive round of job cuts in October, eliminating 14,000 corporate roles and gutting its video game division. At the time, Amazon indicated that more cuts could occur in 2026 as it found “additional places where we can remove layers”.
