Amitabh Bachchan personally called The House of Abhinandan Lodha founder and chairman Abhinandan Lodha around 3 am to inquire about purchasing a land in Ayodhya and transferred Rs 15 crore the next day after knowing the price, the real estate businessman revealed.Speaking at the Hindustan Times India Next Real Estate Summit 2026, Lodha recalled that he was in Australia in 2023 when he noticed a couple of missed calls and a message from the Bollywood superstar.“There were a couple of missed calls, followed by a message saying, ‘I’m Amitabh Bachchan, please call back whenever it’s convenient’. I literally got up and called him back,” Lodha said.Recalling their conversation, Lodha said Bachchan told him, “Abhinandan ji, main UP se hoon aur mujhe Ayodhya ji mein land leni hai (I am a native of Uttar Pradesh and I want to buy land in the holy city of Ayodhya).”“I told you we’ll do it for you,” he added.Lodha said Bachchan first inquired about the price of the land.“I said, ‘How can I talk to you about pricing?’ He said he wanted to buy 15,000 sq ft and I told him it could cost around Rs 15 million, and the next day he sent me Rs 15 million,” Lodha recalled.

Bachchan has been steadily expanding his real estate portfolio in Ayodhya over the last few years.In March 2026, he purchased a 2.67-acre land plot worth Rs 35 crore from The House of Abhinandan Lodha. According to the company, this is its third investment in Ayodhya and the fourth planned development purchase with HoABL. In 2024, it had purchased a 10,000 sq ft plot in HoABL’s flagship mixed-use development, The Sarayu, for Rs 14.5 crore.On the work front, Bachchan is currently working on the sequel to ‘Kalki 2898AD’. The actor will reunite with Prabhas for the sequel to director Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi epic. The film, which is currently in production, is scheduled for theatrical release worldwide in December 2027.
