With just a few days left until the main draw of the French Open begins, many ATP players are practicing matches in Hamburg, Germany. Alex de Minaur and Tommy Paul are among the men who have reached the quarterfinals in Hamburg. All matches promise to be exciting and here at LWOT we predict all the action in this article.
ATP Hamburg Quarterfinal Predictions
Ugo Humbert vs Ignacio Buse
Face to face: first meeting
Humbert’s professional achievements are more impressive than Buse’s. However, the Peruvian has been superb in Hamburg. After two wins in qualifying, he easily overtook Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik. In contrast, Humbert bested Justin Engel and Karen Khachanov in the decisive tiebreakers. Buse’s excellent performances and his opponent’s likely fatigue mean I think the 22-year-old’s streak will continue.
Prediction: Bus in 2
Tommy Paul vs. Daniel Altmaier
Head to head: Paul 1-0 Altmaier
Both men fought close battles in the previous round. Paul won an epic match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a decisive tiebreaker, while Altmaier fought back from a set down against No. 2 seed Ben Shelton. Altmaier was able to consistently rely on his serve to get free points against Shelton. Paul’s better return and willingness to extend rallies make it a worse matchup for the German.
Prediction: Paul in 2
Aleksandar Kovacevic vs. Camilo Ugo Carabelli
Head to head: Kovacevic 1-0 Carabelli
Each player caused a surprise to reach this stage. Kovacevic eliminated number one seed Felix Auger-Aliassime despite losing the first set, and Ugo Carabelli triumphed against Frances Tiafoe. Kovacevic uses an aggressive style, but Ugo Carabelli is in the best position to counter that on clay. Expect a close battle that I think Ugo Carabelli will overcome.
Prediction: Ugo Carabelli in 3
Alex de Minaur vs Luciano Darderi
Face to face: first meeting
De Minaur’s two wins so far in Hamburg were welcome after failing to claim any wins in Madrid or Rome. On the contrary, Darderi’s efforts to reach this stage are impressive after reaching the semi-final in Rome. Although Darderi’s best chance of beating De Minaur is on clay, the Australian’s game is suited to stifling players like Darderi. Expect the No. 3 seed to reach the semifinals if they put enough balls in play.
Prediction: Minaur in 2
