PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian women’s team was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Uber Cup after a 3-0 loss to 16-time champions China.

However, the players can be proud of their effort, as they put up a strong fight and did not make it easy for China to secure the points.

In the quarter-final tie at Forum Horsens on Thursday (April 30), K. Letshanaa gave World No. 2 Wang Zhiyi a good challenge before falling 17-21, 18-21.

Carmen Ting, who reunited with Ong Xin Yee, also impressed as she took the match into a decider against world number one pairing Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning.

However, experience proved the difference as Carmen-Xin Yee fell 14-21, 21-16, 13-21.

Wong Ling Ching then tried to keep Malaysia alive, but Chen Yufei was too strong, winning 21-10, 21-10 to seal the third point and send China through.

China advanced to the semifinals and will face either Japan or Thailand.
