DEHRADUN: K Joshi (70), a retired brigadier, was allegedly shot dead during a road rage incident between two groups traveling in separate cars on Rajpur Road in Dehradun on Monday morning.According to Pramod Kumar, SP (city) of Dehradun, the incident occurred between 6.45 am and 7 am when Brig Joshi, a resident of Rajpur, had gone out for his routine morning walk.“At the same time, two cars sped along the busy Rajpur highway. The occupants of one vehicle were chasing the other and opened fire during the chase. Brigadier Joshi, who had no connection with the incident, was hit by a stray bullet,” Kumar said.The retired officer collapsed on the spot and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.SP Kumar said the incident occurred over a dispute related to overtaking on Mussoorie Highway near Jori village in Dehradun.“During investigation, it was found that the accused driving an SUV attempted to overtake a Delhi-registered SUV but failed. Enraged, they chased the Delhi SUV while opening fire with guns aimed at its tires to stop it. During that firing, a bullet hit Brig Joshi. The Delhi SUV then crashed into a tree on the roadside. The accused in the other SUV then stopped his car and assaulted the two men sitting inside the Delhi car before damaging his car. car and flee the scene,” Kumar said.Police said the accused fled the scene after abandoning their car some distance away.
