The annual report, which is based on QBE’s proprietary claims data, found that neoplasms accounted for 36% of all stop-loss claim reimbursements, maintaining its position as the leading diagnosis at all deductible levels. At the $200,000 deductible level, severity of neoplasm claims increased 12% from the average in previous years, while frequency increased nearly 30%. Across all conditions, the frequency of members with annual claims in excess of $200,000 per 10,000 employees increased approximately 20% year over year, driven primarily by neoplasms, birth-related claims and circulatory diseases. Birth-related claims frequency is set to more than double between 2024 and 2025.
