Coco Gauff: “I haven’t appeared” in the last few games, talks about mental block in Doha & more related news here

DOHA, Qatar—Coco Gauff was largely in good spirits despite a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Elisabetta Cocciaretto at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open on Tuesday, the No. 4 seed falling to 0-2 since reaching the Australian Open quarterfinals last month.

“I feel like I haven’t shown my best level in the last few games,” Gauff said to open his post-match mixed zone. “I’m just looking to find that again.”

The reigning Roland Garros champion enjoyed a bright start to the 2026 season, defeating Iga Swiatek in the United Cup in January, but suffered a shock loss in Melbourne to Elina Svitolina and, after a loss on Monday night in doubles alongside Victoria Mboko, looked equally dispirited against Cocciaretto following a first-round bye.

“I just feel like some of the things I’ve been working on in practice don’t translate to the court, which is very frustrating,” Gauff said. “I’ve had good practices, but I haven’t played well in games. I just need to figure out how to translate that.”
