Congress Lok Sabha MP from Saharanpur Imran Masood on Tuesday (March 3, 2026) met Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, India representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader Late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to offer his condolences following the demise of Khamenei.

Masood described the death of the Iranian leader as a “sad event” and personally conveyed his condolences during the meeting.
“I had gone there to offer condolences on the death of their supreme leader. It was Iran who stood with us in difficult times. India and Iran share historical relations that go back centuries. The world has lost a brave leader. History will remember him as a brave figure, someone who, despite facing numerous limitations, strove to develop his nation. The passing away of such an individual is indeed a profound loss. I was told that the late Supreme Leader knew more about India than many other educated and capable people,” he said.
“He was an exceptionally knowledgeable and competent person who had a deep knowledge of India,” Mr. Masood said. The Hindu.
In a related development, senior Congress leader and Wayanad Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra described the assassination of a sitting head of state amid ongoing negotiations as a serious rupture in contemporary international relations.
