Even as Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge continues its good run at the box office, the film has run into legal trouble. Bollywood production house Trimurti Films has filed a case against Aditya Dhar’s B62 Studios for the alleged unauthorized use of the song Rang De Lal (Hey Oye).
Dispute over use of ‘Rang De Lal’
According to a report by Bar and Bench, the dispute revolves around the rights to the popular song from the 1989 film Tridev. The song was co-written by Kalyanji – Anandji along with Viju Shah, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi and vocals by Amit Kumar and Sapna Mukherjee.Trimurti Films has alleged that the song, or a substantially similar version, was used in the film without obtaining the required licenses.
Claims of copyright infringement
The report also indicates that Trimurti has asserted ownership and/or control over the rights to the musical work and sound recording. The company has alleged that the use constitutes copyright infringement, including unauthorized reproduction and public communication of the track.The lawsuit seeks a court order to restrict further use of the song, along with damages and other compensation. It has also raised concerns about commercial exploitation of the track in theatrical releases, streaming platforms and promotional content.
The film continues its strong box office streak
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The spy action thriller stars Ranveer Singh and serves as a sequel to Dhurandhar (2025).The film explores the origin story of his character, Jaskirat Singh Rangi, charting his transformation into Hamza Ali Mazari and his rise within the underworld of Lyari while carrying out a larger mission.The cast includes Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun, with Danish Pandor and Udaybir Sandhu in key roles. The film also features a cameo by Yami Gautam. Despite the controversy, the film has performed exceptionally well and reportedly crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark at the Indian box office.
