Suvendu Adhikari, the ‘giant killer’ who defeated Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur, has taken oath as the chief minister of the state.

The newly elected BJP MPs – Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu and Nishit Pramanik – were sworn in as ministers in the Suvendu Adhikari-led West Bengal cabinet at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground on Saturday.
Suvendu Adhikari, the ‘giant killer’ who defeated Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur, was sworn in as Chief Minister after leading the BJP to a stellar victory for the first time in the state.
State Governor RN Ravi administered oath to Suvendu Adhikari and his cabinet members.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nitin Gadkari and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states were present at the ceremony.
Suvendu Adhikari’s swearing-in ceremony coincided with the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

After taking oath, Prime Minister Modi greeted West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and members of the new government.
A look at cabinet ministers
- Dilip Ghosh: Dilip Ghosh, veteran BJP leader and former state party chief, was associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He played a crucial role in reshaping the BJP’s grassroots network in Bengal after 2014, the year of the party’s return to the Centre.
- Agnimitra Pablo: A fashion designer by profession, she joined the BJP in 2019. A year later, she was appointed state president of the BJP Mahila Morcha.
- Nisith Pramanik: A key leader of the BJP, he was a member of the 17th Lok Sabha representing Cooch Behar constituency, where he served as Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Youth and Sports.
- Ashok Kirtania: Originally from Bangaon, Ashok Kirtania represents Bangaon Uttar (SC) constituency in North 24 Parganas.
- Kshudiram Tudu: Kshudiram Tudu represents Ranibadh constituency.
West Bengal Assembly Election
In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP won a landslide victory, winning 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly and ending the TMC’s 15-year rule. The Trinamool, on the other hand, won 80 seats.
