Exclusive | Amit Jadhav Alleges Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara Was Plagiarized From His 2019 Short Film: Shocked By Similarities & more related news here

The world of a couple very much in love collapses when the girl is diagnosed with memory loss. One day she disappears and the boy, a musician, uses a song to find her.

Saiyaara was one of the highest grossing Hindi films of 2025.
Saiyaara was one of the highest grossing Hindi films of 2025.

We just described the basic plot of a 2019 YouTube short film, Amit Jadhav’s Khwaabon, no Saiyaara (2025). The similarities are evident. And this is the basis of her accusations against the makers of the Ahaan Panday-Aneet Padda starrer film, in a viral Instagram video.

Talking to HT City, Amit shares, “I tried to talk last year too. In fact, I got a direct message on Instagram from YRF Talent in 2022, they wanted to get in touch with me. I asked them which project they were contacting me for, they didn’t reply. I didn’t know anyone there, nor had I given them any audition to contact them. A week after Saiyaara was released, my friends called me and said, ‘tera toh, same story as me’. “I was shocked. “I tried to contact them, I even went to their office, but my friends said they wouldn’t entertain me or get back to me.”

Interestingly, claims about Saiyaara’s plot inspiration also circulated last year, albeit in regards to a 2004 Korean film, A Moment To Remember. Amit says Saiyaara is closer to his plot about music than the international film.

Amit claims that he went into depression because he had been trying to convert his short film into a feature film. “I’m a singer, so I kept working, I relaxed a little because of that. But one day I almost committed suicide. I was drunk, my parents saw and that’s how I saved myself. I felt like the world didn’t want me to be successful. They didn’t call me for any auditions,” he says.

And that’s when he started working on a script for himself: “I had producers too. We were going to shoot in 2025. But then Saiyaara happened and everything went off the rails.”

We asked him if he had any stories or scripts on file. Amit says, “I am part of the Screenwriters Association, but no, I did not register the story in 2019 because it was a short film and was on a public platform as evidence.”

Amit alleges that he tried to contact YRF again after the film: “I wrote in the mail that I had also received a mail from them in 2022, and Saiyaara’s story is similar to mine, clarification iska dijiye. I sent twice and got no response.”

What he’s looking for now is recognition: “I should get some credit. Or I can be given some role at least in some project. That’s all I’m looking for.” We reached out to Mohit and Yash Raj Films for a comment but did not get any response till the time of publishing this article.
