New Delhi: CBI has arrested Amit Bapna, former Chief Financial Officer of Reliance Capital Limited, in connection with the ongoing investigation into Reliance ADA Group affairs.The investigation has reportedly revealed that Bapna, who served as CFO at Reliance Capital Limited from August 2014 to December 2019, was one of the key decision makers responsible for managing the financial affairs of the company.A CBI spokesperson said, “Bapna allegedly facilitated and sanctioned loans to intermediary and conduit companies, despite knowing that such loans were contrary to the RBI guidelines and sanction conditions governing lending from public sector banks.”The investigation further revealed that the funds borrowed by Reliance Commercial Finance Limited were diverted through such intermediary entities to various Reliance ADA group companies including Reliance Capital, Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Power, causing wrongful loss to the lending banks and wrongful gain to the accused persons and related entities.Bapna was already in judicial custody in a case being investigated by the ED and was lodged in Tihar jail. To secure his custody in the present case, the CBI obtained a production warrant from the court.
