A Career Pivot: From Job Sites to Consulting
Jaquel’s entry into insurance was unplanned. “I was a safety manager in the construction sector in the early 2000s,” he recalls. “Then around 2007, 2008, when the economic recession hit, the construction industry, especially where I was working, dried up. When we completed our projects, there was nowhere to go.” Faced with limited options, Jaquel applied for a role at a construction-specific insurance carrier. “It wasn’t like I planned to get into the insurance industry. I understood the basics, but it wasn’t something I was advocating for. I thought I’d stick in it for a year or two and then go back into construction. That was 16 years ago. Obviously, I was incredibly wrong on that assessment. No regrets. I enjoy it. It’s been good.”
