According to GEICO, the New York case filed in the Eastern District is based on a different script but the logic is similar. There, the insurer is pursuing more than $404,000 from four durable medical equipment suppliers — Hollis Healing Pro, Medi Casa, International Services and 28 Supplies — and individuals who said they stand behind them. The goods at the center of the controversy are the kind that have withstood scrutiny in the no-fault zone: pulsed electromagnetic therapy devices that have been described as infrared heating pads, pneumatic compression units, continuous acoustic medication devices and off-the-shelf back, knee and shoulder braces. GEICO argues that the device was “medically unnecessary, misleading and otherwise non-reimbursable.”
