Nashville SC returns to MLS at GEODIS Park on Saturday after a midweek Concacaf Champions Cup clash, looking to remain undefeated this year against Orlando City SC. The Boys in Gold sit in first place in the Eastern Conference after four rounds, having scored the second-most goals in the conference and conceded the fewest.

Key arguments

2026 has been a milestone season for the Boys in Gold. Sam Surridge scored 50 career MLS goals with his goal against Minnesota a couple of weeks ago. Hany Mukhtar scored 150 MLS goals with his game-winning goal against Columbus last weekend. Surprisingly, Brian Schwake remains undefeated as Nashville’s starting goaltender in 13 games. And then, of course, there is the Boys in Gold’s record-breaking start, with five wins and three draws in eight games (their best start to a season in the club’s history), plus a first-place finish in the Champions Cup quarter-finals.

And yet, Saturday’s game against Orlando offers plenty of opportunities to achieve new milestones. Dan Lovitz will reach 300 MLS regular season appearances if he plays. Cristian Espinoza is one goal away from contributing 125 in MLS and Surridge is one goal away from 50. Schwake could continue his unbeaten streak, as can Nashville, and the Boys in Gold’s supercharged start to 2026 could become even more impressive.

Three record-breaking attackers (Mukhtar, Surridge, Espinoza) is a luxury that many MLS teams do not allow themselves, nor is a goalkeeper of Schwake’s caliber, nor a veteran full-back with more than a decade in the league, nor an unbeaten start to eight games. The numbers themselves may be somewhat arbitrary, but what they indicate is decidedly not: that the Boys in Gold have one of the best teams in MLS and are playing like it.

The integrity of Nashville’s offense has been one of its undisputed superpowers this season. The forward trio, also Nashville’s Designated Player triad of Mukhtar, Surridge and Espinoza, has looked as dangerous as any unit in the league in 2026, combining for seven goals in four games, along with three assists. Surridge’s four goals, a pair of doubles against New England and Minnesota, lead the way for the Boys in Gold and put the Englishman in second place in the race for the Golden Boot.

However, beyond their overwhelming firepower and impressive numbers, the best aspect of Nashville’s attack has been its resilience. The Boys in Gold created plenty of chances against Miami in the first leg of their round of 16 tie, but ended the game goalless, leading to an aggressive second leg that culminated in Espinoza’s magnificent goal to put his team through. The Boys in Gold struggled to break down Columbus’ defense on the road last weekend, but they kept the pressure on and scored a memorable last-minute goal.

The mark of a great team is its ability to win no matter the circumstances. A 1-0 win counts the same as a 4-1 win; Just as a 1-1 win under the away goals rule counts the same as a 7-0 win over two games. Nashville’s ability to overcome adversity when it arises, score when it matters, and rack up goals when it can bodes incredibly well for its hopes this season. And against an Orlando team that has scored 12 goals in just four games but routinely faces the Boys in Gold, that’s precisely what they need.

History of the series + What’s next

Nashville and Orlando have been frequent enemies throughout their shared existence, facing each other 17 times previously in all competitions, a figure second only to Miami. The Boys in Gold have achieved five victories in that period, compared to seven for their Eastern Conference rival, with five draws shared between them.

Nashville enjoys a well-deserved two-week break as play concludes on Saturday for the March international break, before returning to the field on April 4 for a road clash at the Chicago Fire.
