HDFC Bank has notified its customers that UPI-based cash withdrawals at ATMs will be counted as part of the free monthly ATM transaction limit starting April 1, 2026. Customers exceeding this limit will incur standard withdrawal charges.

In a communication to account holders, the private sector lender stated that UPI cash withdrawals will no longer be treated separately and will now be included within the number of free ATM transactions allowed each month.

Customers exceeding the free transaction threshold will be charged ₹23 plus applicable taxes per withdrawal.

Currently, HDFC Bank Savings and Salary Accounts offer five free withdrawals per month at HDFC Bank ATMs. For non-HDFC Bank ATMs, the free withdrawal limit is three transactions per month in the six major cities and five transactions in other locations.

The bank described the change as an effort to standardize fee structures across channels and maintain transparent transaction charges.

UPI-enabled ATM withdrawals allow customers to withdraw cash without a debit card by scanning a QR code at supported ATMs and authorizing the transaction through a UPI app. This cardless cash service has been gradually introduced across banks to expand digital access to cash.
