Eight years after their last meeting, Hungary and Finland will meet again in a friendly on Friday at the Puskas Arena. This same venue hosted the UEFA Champions League final less than a week ago, but will refocus its priorities on hosting the national team following Paris Saint-Germain’s victory over Arsenal.

Both teams finished third in their respective UEFA qualifying groups and did not get the points needed to secure a place in the playoffs. Instead, a dramatic defeat to the Republic of Ireland left Hungary replaced in the playoff picture, while Finland finished inches behind Poland and the Netherlands in qualifying Group G.
On the same night that the Puskas Arena hosted the Champions League final, the Eagle Owls were busy suffering a 4-0 annihilation at the hands of Germany. And that technically marked Finland’s second straight loss after a penalty shootout loss to Cape Verde in the final of their FIFA Series competition in March.
Both teams have called up a host of young talent to test their mettle this week with so little at stake, and Hungary coach Marco Rossi in particular has seven uncapped players on board. Liverpool’s Domink Szoboszlai will captain the home side, while his Finnish counterpart Lukas Hradecky could make his 105th cap.
