KATHMANDU, JANUARY 18

Nepal suffered an eight-wicket defeat against Thailand in their opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 123 runs, Thailand reached 123 for two in 16.5 overs. Nathakan Chantham led the chase with an unbeaten 57 off 29 balls, including nine fours and a six. Nanpat Koncharonkai added 32 runs, while Afisra Suwanchonrathi scored 28. Sita Ranamagar claimed both wickets for Nepal.

Earlier, Nepal were bowled out for 122 runs in 20 overs after being sent in to bat. Bindu Rawal was the top scorer with 44 off 56 balls, hitting four boundaries. Samjhana Khadka quickly scored 26 off 11 balls, while Rubina Khatri scored 17 and Pooja Mahato added 12. No other Nepali batsman reached double figures.

For Thailand, Thipatcha Puthawang took three wickets, while Onnita Kamchomple claimed two. Chaninda Suttharuwang, Suliporn Laomi and Sunida Chaturugratan took one wicket each.

Nepal will face Netherlands in their next match on January 22.
