India-US partnership has 'unlimited potential', says Sergio Gore as trade deal inches closer

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore on Thursday said the US hopes to finalize an interim trade agreement with India in the coming weeks and months as the two countries work to deepen economic and technology ties.“Our existing interim trade agreement is on the table for finalization, which will open the door to prosperity for both of our countries,” Gore said in Delhi.“We are fully hopeful that a trade agreement will be signed in the next few weeks and months,” he said.Highlighting the broad trajectory of bilateral relations, Gore said there is significant scope for enhancing cooperation between the two countries in various fields. He said, “There are immense possibilities to advance US-India relations.”The envoy said Washington is increasingly recognizing India’s economic and technological strengths and is keen to strengthen engagement.“There is an opportunity to transform the US-India relationship into a more seamless economic relationship,” Gore said.He said no bilateral partnership is better placed to take advantage of emerging opportunities, especially in the technology sector.“There is no better partnership than the one between India and the United States to take advantage of new opportunities, including in the technology sector,” he said.Referring to technology cooperation, Gore said the US is actively reviewing its export control framework to facilitate deeper cooperation with India. The Ambassador also highlighted India’s participation in Pax Silica and said it reflects the US’s confidence in India’s capabilities.“The reason why India was among the first top 10 countries to join Pax Silica is because we trust this place, we trust the people here, we trust the technology, we trust your government. This is a partnership that we are keen to pursue,” he said.Gore also described US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent visit to India as “solid”, underscoring the continued engagement between the two countries on a range of strategic and economic issues.(With inputs from agencies)
