Vijayawada: BCY Party national president Bode Ramachandra Yadav launched a scathing attack on the ruling coalition government, accusing it of conspiring to embezzle billions of public funds in the name of installing an NTR statue and developing a memorial park in Amaravati. He said the state’s financial situation was in a dire state, and the government was finding it difficult to borrow funds even to pay monthly salaries to employees and pensions to retired staff. In such a grim situation, he said, trying to melt down the people’s hard-earned money in the form of bronze statues reflects how misplaced the government’s priorities have become. He made these statements in a press release issued on Friday.“On the one hand, welfare schemes are being cut and on the other, the government claims that there is no funding for development. In such circumstances, planning massive statues using 3,500 tonnes of bronze at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore represents the height of administrative stupidity,” Ramachandra Yadav said. “People’s taxes and loans collected by the government should be spent on public welfare and development of the state, not on political interests or erecting statues of party leaders. If you really love and respect NTR, build statues with your own money or with donations collected by your party. No one will object. But not a single rupee of public money should be spent on these statues,” he warned.Criticizing the cultural justification offered by the government, he said invoking slogans like “Telugu pride” and “Telugu glory” was nothing but a hoax. “True Telugu pride lies in feeding the poor, and true Telugu glory lies in providing jobs to unemployed youth, not in bronze statues. While the idea of ​​creating libraries and knowledge centers is welcome, linking them to statutory policy is unfortunate. If, instead, those funds are allocated to strengthen libraries and research facilities in government schools and universities, thousands of students would benefit,” he said.Ramachandra Yadav called the ministers’ claims to seek public opinion “ridiculous” and said no poor person or middle-class employee would want their tax money to be spent on statues. “If the government stubbornly moves even one step forward, the BCY Party will lead a movement to stop the construction of any statue using public funds. No government has the right to misappropriate public money. First, meet the basic needs of the people and improve their living standards. We will not silently tolerate misuse of funds in the name of statue politics,” he said. CPI(M) state secretary V Srinivasa Rao also strongly condemned the state government’s decision to spend Rs 1,800 crore on the park and NTR’s status in the capital city.
