Hulu has released the official trailer for Dear killer babysittersa new drama series that revisits the story of Pablo Escobar from a perspective rarely explored on screen. The upcoming series stars John Leguizamo as the infamous Colombian drug lord and premieres April 1 on Hulu in the US, with Disney+ streaming the series internationally.

Instead of focusing on Escobar himself, Dear killer babysitters shifts the lens to his son, Juan Pablo “Juampi” Escobar Henao, and offers a coming-of-age story shaped by the chaos of growing up within one of the most feared criminal empires in modern history. The series unfolds through the eyes of Juampi as he navigates his childhood surrounded by violence, loyalty, and the constant threat posed by the men who served as his father’s hitmen and, in many ways, his caretakers.

The approach distinguishes the series from previous dramatizations of Escobar’s life. Instead of retelling the rise and fall of the Medellín cartel from the kingpin’s perspective, Dear killer babysitters examines the emotional and psychological toll of being raised in that world. The trailer hints at a tense dynamic between admiration and fear as Juampi grapples with his father’s power and the danger that follows the family wherever they go.

Leguizamo takes on the role of Pablo Escobar Gaviria, marking a surprising turn for the Colombian-American actor known for a wide range of performances in comedy, drama and action. Over the years, Leguizamo has appeared in films such as To Wong Foo, thank you for everything! Julia Newmar, Carlito’s pathand violent nightbut playing one of the most notorious figures in modern criminal history adds a darker dimension to his filmography.

The series traces Juampi’s life through different stages, with Janer Villareal playing the teenage version of Juan Pablo, while Miguel Tamayo and Miguel Ángel García play younger versions of the character. Laura Rodríguez appears as Juampi’s mother, Victoria Henao.

Additional cast members include Juanita Molina, Julián Zuluaga, Rafael Zea, Danharry Colorado, Julián Bustamante, Julián Díaz and Melanie Dell’ Olmo. Andrés Delgado and Carmen Electra also appear in the series with a special participation alongside Leguizamo.

Behind the scenes, Dear killer babysitters is produced by Telemundo Studios, Underground Producciones and TIS Studios. Sebastián Ortega serves as showrunner and co-created the project with Juan Pablo Escobar and Pablo Farina. The series is based directly on Juan Pablo Escobar’s childhood memories, giving the story a deeply personal foundation.

Escobar himself remains one of the most infamous figures in modern history. Known as the “King of Cocaine,” he turned the Medellín cartel into one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the world during the 1980s and early 1990s before dying in a shootout with Colombian authorities in 1993. His legacy has been dramatized numerous times in film and television, but Dear killer babysitters attempts to explore the collateral damage left within his own family.

Dear killer babysitters premieres April 1 on Hulu and will also stream on Hulu through the Disney+ bundle for US subscribers, with Disney+ handling the international launch.
