Every time a new reality show comes on, you think you’d see something new, enough to keep you going with what’s ahead. And well, Alliance on Prime Video tries to bring that, but only in pieces, because even when there is newness in its own way, you know that a lot of it feels like an amalgamation of what you’ve seen before; Only this time, everyone has allies, but eventually, they may have to fight them too.
First impressions of the alliance: the contestants
Hosted by Kunal Kemmu Alliance has had two episodes aired before Block 2 is streaming on Netflix and well, so far, it may not have reached its full potential. But do the contestants help the show reach that potential or do they just hold it back?
Good, Alliance It has an interesting mix of contestants, who all come in pairs, but do they play in pairs? Well, not really! From Ravi Kishan, one of the biggest names, to Kushal Tandon, Daisy Shah and Mini Mathur among others, there are names worth mentioning here. Other contestants include Ravi’s daughter Riva Kishan, Zaid Darbar, Nikhil Chinappa, Niti Taylor, Ruhee Dosani, Vanshaj Singh, Dolly Javed, Payal Dhare aka Payal Gaming, Sabby Suri, Delbar Arya and Armaan Khera.
So far, the contestants who have managed to show enthusiasm for the game do not include many, but some seem to simply be trying out a well-proven tactic: fighting. Vanshaj seems to be following the same pattern we saw in the 50swhile Kushal is somehow becoming the center of attention everywhere. Meanwhile, Ravi Kishan has power, but he is lost somewhere in the show and we would like to see him do better.
Some barely visible contestants include Niti, Dolly, Armaan and Sabby among others and it’s time to get your socks ready. Mini, Nikhil, Zaid and Payal seem to play like they know a lot, but they are all the best and that works for their game.
Do we see a potential winner? Not precisely. Do we think who it could be? Well, a few names come up, but it all depends on who makes the right decisions, and honestly, the fun is in not knowing!
First impressions of the Alliance: the host and the game
Kunal Kemmu is an unconventional choice for a reality show host, but hey, he’s actually one of the most enjoyable things about the show, especially considering the fact that there are instances that make you feel like it’s just a fancier version of another task-based reality show mixed with some dramatic elements of another reality show that requires people to be locked inside a house.
Kunal does a great job explaining the rules, adding some entertainment, and of course, his one-liners before the start always land.
Moving on to the gameplay, the twists and turns that have occurred in just two episodes leave you wanting more, and that’s where the strength of Alliance lies. The episodes are short, so you never get bored, but at times, it can feel like everything is happening too fast, so there is a lack of balance at times.
The house is as stylish as it gets, probably the best we’ve seen on any Indian TV reality show so far, and the ‘System’ is an interesting addition to the mix of things.
Everyone should play in alliances, but only one will win: the one who ultimately becomes the Ace. And how do you do that? Well, it’s the challenges that you win, and it’s an ally of the team at the top of the leaderboard that will have the opportunity, each week.
Alliance It is a good watch; It feels like deja vu from the parts we’ve seen, but it brings its own mix to things, and the contestants have to try harder to do what’s fun and right, and not just dramatic.
