Delhi got relief from the prevailing hot and humid conditions on Thursday afternoon (June 4, 2026) as light rain lashed the city amid the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert and forecasting light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across the city for the next few hours.

The weather office said gusts of wind at speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, with gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour, are expected during the period.

There is also a possibility of hail in isolated places in Delhi, he added.

The forecast covers all districts of the city including Central, East, New Delhi, North, North East, North West, Shahdara, South, South East, South West and West Delhi.

The IMD described the storm activity as “very likely” and advised residents to follow the guidelines issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority and other concerned agencies.

Officials said the warning has been shared with relevant authorities for necessary action.

Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category, with an air quality index (AQI) of 147, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered “good”, 51 and 100 “satisfactory”, 101 and 200 “moderate”, 201 and 300 “bad”, 301 and 400 “very poor” and 401 and 500 “severe”.
