UP Warriorz captain Meg Lanning has set a new Women’s Premier League (WPL) record by completing her 11th half-century in the league. The milestone was achieved against Mumbai Indians at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Saturday. The former Australia captain played a knock of 70 runs, making her the first player to record 11 50+ scores in WPL history.
A stellar hand from Lanning
Batting first in the game, UPW lost opener Kiran Navgire for a duck. However, Lanning found a potent partner in Phoebe Litchfield (61) as the two Australians advanced the innings with a 119-run stand, the second-highest partnership by a UPW pair. Lanning, who changed gears after settling in, was eventually dismissed for 70 off just 45 balls. His knock was combined with 11 fours and two sixes (SR: 155.56).
Lanning’s journey to the milestone
Lanning’s journey to his 11th WPL half-century has been remarkable. He led Delhi Capitals in the first three seasons of the WPL before moving to Warriorz for WPL 2026. Having played a total of 32 matches, he reached 1,145 with an average of 39.48 (SR: 126.37). Meanwhile, Lanning broke the tie with the Mumbai Indians duo of Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur, who own 10 fifties each.
Second most runs in WPL
Lanning’s contribution to the WPL goes beyond fifty. Under his leadership, DC finished runners-up in each of the first three seasons (2023, 2024 and 2025). His tally of 1,145 WPL runs is the second most for any batsman. He is only behind Sciver-Brunt, who amassed 1,166 runs at an impressive average of almost 47.
