Trichy: Hundreds of people participated in a reading marathon held at the district central library on WB Road here on Friday, the first day of the National Library Week celebrations (November 14 to 21). After the inaugural programme, students and teachers of Holy Cross College participated in the reading marathon inaugurated by district library in-charge ER Saravanakumar. After the event, special guest Isabella Rajakumari, Principal of Holy Cross College, spoke about the need and benefits of reading. The students then shared their experience participating in the marathon.On Saturday, the library has planned a debate on knowledge gained through media versus knowledge through books. On Sunday there will be drawing, origami and costume contests for children. On November 17, 18 and 19, respectively, health camps for older readers, craft competitions for female readers and orientation programs for young people are planned. On the last day, the library management will conduct an exhibition tour for children to access various sections of the library.
