Neymar regretted Santos’ 1-1 draw with Corinthians in Vila Belmiro on Sunday, for the sixth round of the Brazilian Championship, and acknowledged his performance was below expectations.
The captain and number 10 said in a publication that it was not the result they wanted or the game he expected to play. He added that football is like that, not all games will go well, and he stressed the need to continue working. He also thanked the Santos fans for their great support after selling out the tickets for the classic.
The derby was their last game before Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti announces his call-up for the friendlies against Croatia and France later this month, with the list scheduled for Monday afternoon.
Rodrigo Caetano, general coordinator of the national teams, and Carleto were in Mirassol last Tuesday to see the local team face Santos and watch Neymar, but he was reserved and did not travel.
So far this season, Neymar has played four games for Santos, three as a starter, scored two goals and provided one assist.
