Mumbai, May 15 (IANS) Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari shared that the emergency affected his studies, leading to him scoring 52 per cent in his metric and 49.26 per cent in science, due to which he was disqualified from getting admission in engineering.
Gadkari will appear on Shekhar Suman’s new late night talk show Shekhar Tonite. In a candid interaction, Gadkari talks about how he once failed to get admission in engineering even though it was his family’s biggest dream for him.
That helped him become the man associated with seven notable infrastructure world records, including several Guinness World Records under his leadership.
Gadkari says, “Let me honestly reveal something to you… I have the tag of ‘Doctor’, but I am not that scholarly. In 1975, when I was in HSC, my sisters, mother, father and everyone wanted me to be an engineer. And I got involved in anti-Emergency work. The atmosphere at that time was extremely turbulent. Many people went to jail.
He further added, “It severely affected my studies. I scored 52% in matric and only 49.26% in science, so I was disqualified from taking admission in engineering. And today I have seven world records, related to roads, tunnels, bridges, highways and highways.”
The Emergency in India was a 21-month period between 1975 and 1977, when the late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency across India citing internal and external threats to the country.
Created by Adhyayan Suman and produced by Dharmesh Sangani, the show premieres on May 15 on YouTube.
Shekhar had told IANS what he aims to achieve with his latest creative endeavor. The actor said he wants to represent the people and ask questions on their behalf to some influential people in the society with the power to bring about a change.
He told IANS: “The ram inside every person takes him to Ayodhya after his exile. A truth that draws him towards itself. This show was famous just for that. Speaking frankly, telling the truth, attacking the system, waking up people.”
“I have been seeing for a long time what is happening in society, what is happening with democracy, what is happening in the country; many people should raise their voices against it. And raising your voice does not mean that you start abusing them. That is wrong.”
“I am totally against it. You can confront people in a respectful way. So, through a good show, a powerful show, I want to raise all those things. I have to represent the people and ask questions to politicians or actors,” he added.
