PUBG mobile Version 4.4, titled Hero’s Crown, launches on May 12 on iOS and Android. The update is one of the most ambitious thematic overhauls the game has had in years, bringing Erangel into a Greek and Roman mythology setting with new map zones, a PvE boss encounter, new abilities, new weapons, and a Blue Lock anime crossover arriving in the coming weeks.

Erangel’s familiar landmarks have been redesigned for the Hero’s Crown theme. Yasnaya Polyana, the Ruins, the Ferry Pier, and Mylta are all getting overlays of Greek architecture: marble columns, temples of the Olympian gods, gladiator barracks, and war banners replace the map’s usual Eastern European aesthetic. The changes are not purely visual. Typical hot shoot timings and sightlines change along with the new structures, reorganizing how teams rotate and position themselves in the opening minutes of a match.

Nimbus Island and the Divine Trials

The main addition is Nimbus Island, a new floating point called Crown’s Abode. The island offers premium loot, additional cooldown opportunities, and two new active abilities: Heart of Fury, which provides a combat boost, and Spartan Flag, which expands a team’s buff zone. The Centaur boss encounter is the centerpiece of the island: squads have three minutes to defeat him in exchange for rare loot and unique rewards.

The Divine Trials system runs throughout the update as the main progression cycle. Four named trials linked to mythology, Achilles, Spartan, Icarus and Griffin, are scattered across the map. Completing them earns Glory Medals, which accumulate throughout matches and unlock the update’s exclusive seasonal rewards. Also introduced is a new vehicle, the Chariot: a chariot powered by fire horses with a top speed of 85 km/h that can fly briefly when fully powered.

Weapons, collaborations and what comes next

The M1 Garand arrives as a new sniper rifle. Weapon balance changes significantly change the meta: Sniper rifles receive a significant buff with ranged damage reduction disabled, making long-range engagements just as effective as close-range ones. Assault rifles are removed, dealing less ranged damage, and shotguns receive adjustments to armor damage and spread. The Gold Set, an upgradeable Spartan Conqueror-themed outfit with matching weapon skins, is the premium cosmetic centerpiece of 4.4.

The entire May schedule around the update is dense. Ranked Season 30 begins on May 13. A collaboration event with Ford Motor Cruise begins the same day. A Harley-Davidson collaboration will launch on May 15. The Blue Lock anime crossover begins on May 22 and will bring character skins based on Yoichi Isagi, Seishiro Nagi, Meguru Bachira, and Rin Itoshi through a 500 UC Prize Path progression system. Blue Lock Early Access rewards will be available starting May 14 for players who log in before the main event.
