The weather in Gurugram and Faridabad changed suddenly due to western disturbances on Friday. After strong winds on Thursday night, gusty winds and light rain were observed on Friday morning, cooling the atmosphere in the area.
Recently, due to the scorching sun, residents of Gurugram and Faridabad (for the most part) had started exchanging warm clothes for lighter ones, but the rain and cold wind forced them to take off their sweaters and jackets again.
Waterlogging was reported in parts of both cities after the rain.
Rains started in Gurugram at 7 am and continued intermittently throughout the day. Heavier rain was recorded at night, causing temperatures to drop even further.
The Meteorological Department predicts that after the rains, daytime temperatures may drop to 19-21°C.
Minimum temperatures can drop to around 6-8°C.
Continuous rains in Faridabad disrupted normal life and aggravated the cold. Due to waterlogging of roads, traffic was affected and vehicle movement slowed down in many areas. Darkness during the day made vehicle movement even more difficult.
Gurugram DIPRO Bijendra Kumar said that during the day, the city and its surrounding areas received an average rainfall of more than 12 mm.
Rain and strong winds directly impacted air quality. At 11 am, Gurugram recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 225, while Manesar recorded an AQI of 214.
Pollution levels had been rising steadily over the past few days due to intense sunlight and lack of wind.
Experts are of the opinion that if the current climatic conditions continue, the ICA can improve further.
The season is considered beneficial for farmers engaged in rabi crops as the yield is expected to improve.
