Scottie Scheffler previously confessed that a call from his wife would lead him to withdraw from the Masters. The 29-year-old is currently scheduled to take part in the camp at Augusta.

The American has worn the iconic green jacket twice in his career after winning the event in 2022 and 2024. World number one Scheffler is considered the favorite to triumph at Augusta National once again, despite his break in preparation before the major.

He failed to finish in the top 10 in his last three starts and bowed out of the Houston Open last week. Scheffler withdrew from the event because his wife Meredith is giving birth to their second child.

This is not the first time the four-time major winner has prioritized his family over his golf career. Two years ago, Scheffler was the overnight leader heading into the final round, but admitted he had an escape plan.

Augusta National bans cell phones on the course. However, the golfer insisted there would be no dilemma if he found out his wife had gone into labour.

He said, “I definitely have a way to get home pretty quickly. We have someone here who has access to your cell phone, if that’s okay. And yes, I’ll be available to come home whenever you need me. I think she’ll call? You better call!”

Reiterating his stance, Scheffler had also told ESPN: “If she calls me while I’m on the 17th, then I better go home.” He was finally able to score four under par in his final round to win his second Masters title.

The couple’s son, Bennett, arrived a few weeks later. Scheffler is now experiencing a similar situation as he awaits the birth of his second child, although the Masters begins on April 9.

The family hopes to welcome the newborn before Scheffler heads to Augusta. While his wife is unlikely to attend the Major, he previously spoke about the crucial advice Meredith had given him before winning the Masters in 2022.

After his victory, Scheffler said, “So for me, my identity is not a golf score. As Meredith told me this morning, ‘If you win this golf tournament today, if you lose this golf tournament by 10 strokes, if you never win another golf tournament again, I will still love you, you will still be the same person, Jesus loves you and nothing changes.’

Scheffler won the PGA Championship and the Open Championship in 2025. He also had four other PGA victories, including the Memorial Tournament and the BMW Championship.

He started this year with a win at the Desert Classic and posted top-four finishes in his next two events. Most recently, he tied for 24th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and finished 22nd at the Players Championship.
