When the countdown used images of The MandalorianTo finish with “forged for IMAX,” one was ready for a great adventure in a galaxy far, far away.
Instead of the opening trailer, we get a couple of title cards for those who arrived late, like in the Phantom comics, and then we cut to a James Bond-style opening.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (English)
Director: jon favreau
Starring: Pedro Pascal, Jeremy Allen White, Brendan Wayne, Lateef Crowder, Sigourney Weaver
Execution time: 132 minutes
Argument: The New Republic tasks the Mandalorian and Grogu with rescuing Jabba the Hutt’s son in exchange for information on the warlord Coin. However, events unfold very differently on the ground.
Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), a Mandalorian bounty hunter, and his ward Grogu, work for the New Republic, hunting Imperial warlords across the galaxy. After successfully completing a mission, replete with massive AT-ATs cleverly sent into snowy crevasses, Din and Grogu head to the New Republic base, where Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver) assigns Din his new mission.
Crime lord Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotto (Jeremy Allen White), has been kidnapped. Jabba’s twin cousins, who run his empire after his death, have information about the warlord Coin and are willing to reveal his location when Rotto returns them.
Din isn’t too interested in the task, but he goes anyway and meets up with the twins before heading to the planet Shakari, where Rotto is supposed to be. Din finds Rotto… and a different truth.
Many gladiator fights, rude and glorious creatures later, all’s well that ends well, with New Republic squads flying around and all sorts of mansions and hideouts exploding with satisfying explosions and bursts of fire.
a continuation of The Mandalorianwhich lasted three seasons from 2019 to 2023, The Mandalorian and Grogu suffers from the same problems that plagued the show’s later seasons, where Din seemed to go from point A to B, doing things. Every time the narrative faltered, Grogu would step in to do something incredibly cute.
So while there’s some slick action and touching sequences of Grogu looking after Din, slimy wonderful creatures (oooh, that dragon snake!), surprisingly flat visuals and Martin Scorsese is a hoot as Hugo, the Ardennian merchant, who Din approaches for information on Rotto. The Mandalorian and Grogu It feels disappointing.
This may not be the Star Wars reboot that Lucasfilm president and chief creative officer (CCO) Dave Filoni, who shares writing credit with Favreau, might have been looking for.
The Mandalorian and Grogu It feels like a bunch of season four episodes strung together with Ludwig Göransson’s lush musical score. There are quests and journeys, helpers and obstacles, strange and wonderful creatures, glowing spaceships and lightning cubes that jump into hyperspace.

just like The Mandalorian Arriving at a time when the world had been turned upside down thanks to an evil virus, the little green guy’s first appearance on screen comes at a time when the world feels even more out of place.
So you could forget about the real-life bombings and online trolls to get lost in Grogu’s big ears and coos, but don’t expect a life-changing cinematic experience.
