According to the filing, the insured purchased a SEIVI rechargeable battery with a charger compatible with Arlo wireless security cameras from Amazon in June 2022. The product was listed under MORNGC, but was stocked, sold and distributed by Amazon through its FBA program. Nearly 18 months later, on December 21, 2023, the charger reportedly failed to shut off after the battery was fully charged. What happened next, according to the filing, was thermal runaway — the batteries overheated, exploded and ejected their internal components, setting nearby objects on fire and setting off the property’s sprinkler system. This resulted in fire, smoke and water damage to the insured’s property in Pasadena.
