The Apple MacBook Neo, not to be confused with the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, marks the return of a truly affordable laptop to Apple Inc.’s portfolio.
at $599, or ₹Starting at Rs 69,900, the Apple MacBook Neo is very relevant to some markets including India – it attempts to compete with mid-range Windows 11 laptops, Google Chromebooks as well as some Android tablets with keyboards. The MacBook Neo with a 13-inch screen is available in two variants (varying between 256GB and 512GB of storage), priced at ₹69,900 more ₹79,900 respectively. The A18 Pro chip is configured with a 6-core CPU including 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine for Apple Intelligence. The suite is expected to get a significant update in the coming weeks, along with the Siri voice assistant.
“We’re incredibly excited to introduce MacBook Neo, which delivers the magic of the Mac at a great price,” said John Ternes, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering. “There’s no other laptop like it.”
There is an element of historical significance in underpinning the return of the MacBook Neo in 2026 with a modern naming scheme, as it carries on the legacy of the original polycarbonate MacBook that was sold between 2006 and 2012, and the 12-inch MacBook with Retina Display, which was on the market from 2015 to 2019. The MacBook Neo also has a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with 2408 x 1506 resolution, 500 nits of brightness, and support for 1 billion colors, Apple confirms.
The company also claims up to 16 hours of battery life with the MacBook Neo, although as is Apple’s style, capacity details have not been specified. It will come with a 20-watt USB-C adapter. The focus remains on portability with a fanless design, tipping the scales at just 1.22kg, despite the aluminum chassis. It has two USB-C ports, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack, while wireless connectivity is provided with Wi-Fi 6E.
By using A18 Pro silicon on a 3-nanometer architecture, Apple has repurposed a chip that was otherwise headed toward being filed as a previous-generation specification. Given the larger chassis it has, with support for an elaborate active and passive cooling architecture, performance will be quite different from an iPhone. Apple’s effort to provide a more stable and performance-oriented experience at price points where Windows laptops offer few compromises, and Chromebooks as well as Android tablets have platform limitations, may resonate with potential buyers.

There’s also the element of colors, which has been a regular feature with the iPad and iPhone series, and also helps with the personalization aspect. Currently, the MacBook Neo is available in a choice of Silver, Blush, Citrus, and Indigo.
