The Meteorological Department (MeT) Srinagar has forecast that hot and dry weather conditions will persist in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. However, starting Friday, precipitation accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, hail and gusts of wind are expected throughout the region.
Temperatures across the region have seen an unprecedented rise in recent days, and heatwave-like conditions are likely to grip the area in mid-June.
According to the latest forecast, the weather conditions on June 12 are expected to bring some relief, with generally cloudy skies and one or two periods of light to moderate rain, brief heavy downpours, thunderstorms, lightning and gusts of wind.
Wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, with gusts of up to 60 kilometers per hour expected at several places in south and north Kashmir.
From June 13 to 17, the weather is likely to remain partly or generally cloudy, with light rain showers, short heavy rain showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusts of wind in scattered places.
The MeT Center has issued a warning about the possibility of showers, lightning and hail in isolated or scattered places during the nights of June 11 and 12.
Authorities have warned that brief heavy rains in isolated areas of Kashmir and Jammu divisions could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly between June 11 and 14.
